ABSTRACT

A quality improvement team was established to examine the implications of OFSTED inspection for the school's assessment, reporting and recording (ARR) policy and practices. OFSTED inspection should be used as a tool for improvement and be viewed as part of an on-going process, linked to the school's development planning cycle. The group looked to develop procedures which are accurate and consistent and which are easily and diplomatically applied within the school. A number of factors influenced the decision, taken at senior management level, to review the school ARR policy and practice. The aims of the review were thus to develop and to refine the ARR policy and, where necessary, to make it clearer and its procedures more manageable and sustainable for the staff. Staff members represent areas of the curriculum, they make recommendations to heads of department, and they have become increasingly confident with the complexities of the assessment scene across the school as a whole.
