ABSTRACT

The concluding chapter summarizes the main findings of the book, presenting and discussing the comparison of the Italian and English cases of mobilization. More especially, section one offers an overview of the chapter by summarizing the main results and contributions. Section two reintroduces the main fields of study with which the book has engaged in conversation and summarizes the main theoretical contributions that it has provided to such fields. Section three summarizes the main empirical findings of the Italian and English mobilizations from a comparative perspective. To this end, this section presents and discusses the main differences of the two cases of mobilization with specific reference to the institutional context, style, and type of university leadership and strategies of mobilization. Finally, while section four illustrates the theoretical and empirical limitations of the present study, the fifth and conclusive section reaffirms the scientific and political relevance of the subject investigated in the book by shedding light on some ideas and proposals which may represent the starting point for a fieldwide research agenda on the contentious politics of higher education.
