ABSTRACT

Psychology and culture have a reciprocal relationship of influence. Individual thoughts, feelings, and behaviours influence cultural norms and practices and vice versa. Each of these areas, however, contributes to the merging of psychology and culture within a global context. Chapter 1 defines culture broadly and considers the history and foundations of psychology and culture. The chapter also delineates specific theoretical approaches to psychology and culture and defines diversity and related cultural concepts. The ‘And So Forth’ section explores positive psychology within a cultural context.
