ABSTRACT

Foundational values regarding the child lead to four educational principles which form the most distinctive feature of four-dimensional education. There are four key elements that really matter in a good education. The first is heights of excellence, identified as being characterised by a combination of ambition and quality. The second is breadth of attainment, which results in valuing and promoting academic, artistic, sporting and pastoral elements of education. The third is depth of engagement, which includes collaboration, curiosity, creativity and rigour. The fourth is length of endeavor, characterised by short-term longevity of learning (grit) and long-term longevity of learning (drive). These four principles are the distinguishing practices of a good education, and each arises directly from the four foundational values at the heart of the four-dimensional model.
