ABSTRACT

The chapter closely examines the politics of performing arts scholarship of Manipur and how it affects the art forms. Subsequently, by focusing on the precept, concepts and philosophy of dance through the analysis of the available traditional texts on performing arts, the study explores the lived-world symbols and meanings, the concepts, feelings, values, notions etc. associated with them, that is, the connotations and denotations – semantic dimensions. Finally, it calls for a study in pursuit of research on performing arts that is as elusive, temporal and contingent as performance.
