ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 discusses three goals for the second edition of Talk About Writing: The Tutoring Strategies of Experienced Writing Center Tutors (TAW): (1) to present a coding scheme based on theory and practice related to scaffolding and show how others can use it to examine writing center talk; (2) to facilitate tutor training by providing a close, empirical analysis of 10 writing center conferences rated as highly satisfactory; and (3) to extend our original discussion of the complexities of coding natural-language data. The third goal is new for this second edition of TAW.
