Chapter 6 documents how systematic killings began in Aceh from 14 October as a means of physically destroying the now large prison population in the province. This was the beginning of the genocide proper. To coincide with this intensification of the military’s campaign the military established a “War Room” to carryout “nonconventional warfare” against Indonesia’s communist group. From this time, prisoners were taken on the back of trucks to military-controlled killing sites where they were killed directly by the military or by villagers ordered to participate. This chapter contains extensive eyewitness accounts of this killing process.
