ABSTRACT

The developers of the Platinum Age stood on the shoulders of giants. Microsoft lured game developers to its Windows operating system with its DirectX application programmer interface, which made integrating advanced graphics, sounds, and game controllers easier to implement and less prone to failure. Ultima Underworld and several of the games it inspired tries to get around this potential issue with class options like the shepherd and a separate skills system. Shadows Over Riva, published in 1996, is the last of the Realms of Arkania games. Redguard departs from the first-person perspective of the other games in favor of a third-person view, with the player's avatar visible on-screen. One of the best of the Elder Scrolls games appeared in 2002: The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Morrowind combines the first-person perspective of the earlier Daggerfall with the third-person of Redguard.
