ABSTRACT

Once officers are clear on what their company stands for, it's time to set up the necessary support systems to ensure the people in their organisation actually live the values. Applying values can be hard – especially in the face of intense pressure to make money or seal a deal – so officer need to make sure the signals and support they give employees make it as easy as possible for them to make the right choices. A number of companies have also set up networks of 'ethics ambassadors' to create a multiplier effect and cascade the message through the organisation. The trick is to ensure that officer’s ethics and compliance support system covers all three aspects – compliance, advocacy and innovation – by working alongside other functions. One of the most commonly voiced challenges of rolling out an effective ethics and compliance programme and getting employees on board is dealing with different cultures.
