ABSTRACT

Embedding sustainability into corporate culture through employee training and support can help engage employees and support sustainability goals. Training on the broad sustainability challenges facing the company such as climate and energy, diversity and inclusion, and how the company handles specific sustainability issues can help inform, but will not unleash the energy of employees nor provide them with the tools they need to engage. A more holistic approach is needed that integrates conscious learning techniques, brings employees together from different levels and departments, aiming for employee happiness, empowerment and commitment. The 3 Ms of conscious learning are: mindful, motivated, and memorable. An integrated approach to participant selection helps people to think freely and reach a new level of awareness about sustainability. If employees are emotionally connected to sustainability, they will commit with hearts and minds to working to achieve the company's sustainability goals. Multi-disciplinary groups are the most effective way to build the optimum participant mix for sustainability engagement training.
