ABSTRACT

The Intention of this DOSHORT has been to introduce to management systems thinking and concepts to help put in place a framework, by tapping into or supplementing existing arrangements as much as possible, to bridge the gap between strategy and want to achieve – from a non-standards viewpoint. Adopting a management systems approach will help in being more formalised and systematic in how and when do things. It will help people understand what sustainability means and more importantly how it applies to their organisation or role. How serious a business is with embedding sustainability into their organisation is largely down to the whim and commitment of its top management. One option is to explore whether organisation's constitution can be amended to include a commitment to operate in a sustainable manner. For many organisations this would involve formally amending the Memorandum and Articles of Association with Companies House.
