ABSTRACT

Each organisation that is involved in the collaboration will have a different way of doing things. Some people may feel that their organisation is pretty good at organising and implementing complex work involving many players and can contribute great suggestions on how to do this. It's crucial to maintain links with the wider constituencies, to stop the collaboration spiralling off and leaving them behind. Action points in meetings can routinely include checking that each collaborator is clear who they are representing or reporting to, and how they will do that. At the end of each meeting, once the decision/action record has been made, everyone present should agree a statement about the meeting that collaborators can use to report back to their constituencies. Beware! Collaborative working takes longer and success may look different to how people expected it to look when they first set out.
