ABSTRACT

Published in 2003, the Business Principles for Countering Bribery (hereafter referred to as the Principles) were developed through a multi-stakeholder dialogue including trade unions, companies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and academics, from many countries. The convenors of the dialogue are Transparency International and Social Accountability International (SAI). Transparency International was founded in 1993 to build coalitions to fight corruption. With more

than 100 chapters around the world, Transparency International views corruption as a barrier to development and human rights. SAI is an NGO, founded in 1997 to develop and promote workplace standards through multi-stakeholder dialogue. SAI has developed the Social Accountability 8000 (SA8000) standard and a process for accrediting certifiers to audit against SA8000 (see Chapter 9).
