ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the practical consequences for corporations, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) initiative, nongovernmental organizations and governments. The purpose of the institutional architecture of the UNGC initiative was to create a platform which facilitated learning among corporations. For smaller UNGC participants, a research approach at the micro-level might be more suitable for assessing the corporate citizenship (CC) embeddedness. The development of the assessment tool has addressed the ill-defined aspects of CC that need to be developed further to build a valuable theory of CC, and of the role of private actors in global governance. The practical implications for corporations are derived both from the actual research results and from the existence of an assessment tool for CC. The emergence of more elaborate methodologies to assess the status quo of CC might change how corporations approach CC in the future.
