ABSTRACT

The empirical study has proved useful for furthering both the sophistication of corporate citizenship (CC) research methods and the knowledge about CC implementation standards in Switzerland. In combination with the case study method, the theoretically developed assessment tool has been helpful in controlling the biases created through corporate self-reports, and it revealed detailed insights into corporate approaches to CC. Acknowledging the significance of the role of individual actors in an organization could also further advance knowledge about CC in theory and practice. Assessing the embeddedness of CC should also be extended to small and medium-sized enterprises. The study has also highlighted the implications of CC for various subdisciplines in management studies. Research on CC should not be approached in academic isolation; instead, researchers should collaborate closely with practitioners whose CC expertise dates back to the early days of globalization.
