ABSTRACT

The Ethos Institute for Business and Social Responsibility is a non-profit organization. Its mission is to mobilize, sensitize and help companies manage their business in a socially responsible manner, making them partners in building a just and sustainable society. The Ethos Institute is a center for organization of knowledge, exchange of experiences and development of tools to help companies analyze their management practices and deepen their commitment to social responsibility and sustainable development. Instituto Ethos perceives its key roles as: broadening the corporate responsibility movement; establishing and integrating corporate responsibility practices; creating an enabling environment for corporate responsibility; influencing public policy; and knowledge creation. The implementation of these activities has evolved over the first decade of Instituto Ethos, and they have become increasingly strategic. Three key stages of development identified: corporate social responsibility (CSR) – get management to act; Value-chain responsibility – leverage the value chain; and Responsible competitiveness – towards an inclusive, green and responsible market.
