ABSTRACT

Maala-Business for Social Responsibility is Israel's leading advocate for corporate social responsibility (CSR) and good corporate citizenship. The movement for greater corporate social responsibility predated Maala and sowed the seeds for its creation. The creation and evolution of Maala has reflected the challenges and context of Israel's political, economic and social scene. In the face of these challenges Maala has continued to evolve and adapt in order to meet the needs of its corporate members and at the same time to challenge them and the Israeli business community at large to take a more ambitious approach to tackling systemic social, economic and political challenges. Maala's evolution was a gradual one, as the following highlights illustrate: strategic corporate community investment; widening the scope of issues and topics; and becoming an active citizen – supporting Israel's national development goals. Maala's high-profile and documented achievements led it to become the source of CSR knowledge in Israel and facilitator for cross-sector dialogue and partnerships.
