ABSTRACT

If human behaviors determine the fate of the planet, individually and collectively, we have a responsibility to do what is necessary to sustain it. We are merely trustees with a responsibility to administer the planet's assets to ensure that they are sustained in a healthy condition into perpetuity. While the commitment to abide by the moral precept to "do no harm" seeks to control the selfish and aggressive aspects of our nature, the commitment to acknowledge our trustee obligations and take responsibility for the continuation of all life emphasizes our selfless, cooperative, and caring instincts. One of the core requirements of a trustee of a living trust is that they clearly understand their responsibilities. As defined by numerous trust documents, the most important include: the duty of loyalty; the duty of prudence; the duty to monitor; and the duty to disclose.
