ABSTRACT

The Holistic Development Model is effective in voicing what matters most because having it present in the organisation simply legitimises speaking to all its elements. Time and time again participants discussed how the limited language used in organisations renders the search for meaningfulness invisible. It is a language that legitimises business or organisational outcomes and often silences concern for human ways of Being and Doing. organisational effectiveness leaves both managers and employees lost for words. From the observed body language silent and the dialogue frustrated the manager as much as the staff. The model makes what is meaningful immediately visible and so helps people to quickly and clearly see the role of meaning in any workplace conversation. The explanation of mission and vision statements is that decision-making is set up to serve the vested interests of those in power. The participants are Anglican priests, within what is of course the very large organisation of the Anglican church.
