ABSTRACT

This chapter argues that classical economic theory and the practices associated with traditional capitalistic enterprise and commonly endorsed in entrepreneurship textbooks, do not reflect a neutral position but instead have the origins in psychosocial perspectives with a race, class, and gender bias towards wealthy, White men. It uses sociological theory to understand why women are not given the recognition they deserve, explains how this can change, and describes what it can expect from a future that acknowledges the value of women entrepreneurs. Ethics should be taught to all and not just those who decide to take those classes. The chapter argues that the relational self is the key to better ways of doing business. It also discusses that the common manifestation of the capitalistic economic system is an example of a domination system.
