ABSTRACT

Fabio Rosa (Rosa), an agronomic engineer, graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. In February 2008, Rosa, a social entrepreneur based in Brazil, was awarded The Leapfrog Fund Award sponsored by The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship and the Lemelson Foundation. Rosa researched and found that the minimum current in an electric fence for cows should be 2,500 volts and for cattle it should be 3,500 volts. By the late 1990s, Rosa had installed 700 electric fencing systems in several states of Brazil and had gained nation-wide recognition as a leader in delivering low-cost solar. In 1992, Rosa started Sistemas de Technologia Adequada Agroeletro (STA) which focused on using solar energy for rural electrification. In 2001, Rosa decided to step down as a director of STA and to focus more on Instituto Para O Desenvolvimento De Energias Alternativas E Da Auto Sustentabilidade.
