ABSTRACT

The Human Resources (HR) function is the key partner in embedding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability initiatives in any organisation, as this can be achieved only when a company educates, engages and empowers its entire workforce. This chapter proposes that the HR function has a responsibility to be proactive in leading the way in establishing a company-wide CSR-enabled culture. It provides the case study of a woman's business named as Sharon Black. Sharon decided to investigate what companies were saying about reward mechanisms and recognition and CSR on their websites and in their CSR reports. Sharon surfed to the link and read that their programme is called 'Star Performers', and it awards quarterly cash bonuses for individuals or teams. Sharon surfed back to the web search page which had led her to the Serco Sodexo website. Sharon thought she would start with global multinationals as they appeared to be the most advanced in the CSR context.
