ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors honour those who can teach them how to pluck the hour and the day virtuously and well, the delightful people who are capable of taking direct enjoyment in things, neither do they spin. In the new world, some of the things that need to change go deeply into the modern psyche and culture. The authors need to shift our definitions of success away from material wealth toward some measure of wellbeing at the individual, community, enterprise and societal levels. They also need to recognise that, in a world of limited resources and burgeoning population, the mantra of growth is no longer even remotely realistic. The authors provide a theory of change that allows for the transformation of existing enterprises and institutions to better meet today's and tomorrow's needs. They find ways to nurture and develop fledgling enterprises that come into being with a very different modus operandi than that of most of enterprises.
