ABSTRACT

This chapter provides Thailand profiles, including key information about the relevant corporate sustainability and responsibility (CSR) history, country-specific issues, trends, research, education and leading organizations. Until 1932 Thailand was an absolute monarchy. Since that time, it has been a constitutional monarchy. Interestingly, many in Thailand claim that CSR's historic roots are to be found in the indigenous culture, but it was not called CSR. Fishermen in the Gulf of Thailand have almost exhausted fish stocks, despite repeated warnings, and poach in neighbouring waters. Without a doubt the topmost issue on the Thai CSR agenda, in terms of urgency from the company viewpoint, has to be governance. Thailand is coping rather well with health challenges. Even outlying rural areas of the Kingdom receive good outpatient medical treatment, and most towns have excellent in-patient care. Thailand is at the entry level when it comes to CSR.
