ABSTRACT
The S-House is used as a centre for sustainable technology, renewable raw materials and sustainable building technologies. The components and design structures are presented to visitors and therefore traditional know-how and recent development in the building industry are accessible to the public. The design-related solutions developed for the S-House meet all requirements of the passive house standard with regard to heat conductivity and wind proofing. In order to monitor the environmental performance of the building, an extensive measuring system has been developed to estimate and document the important physical and climatic parameters of the building. Thus, the data obtained in the lab regarding the building construction are now being tested in practical terms. The S-House as an example of the combination of those techniques has drawn worldwide attention, and a great number of visitors have shown their interest and willingness to replicate the sustainable building concept.
