ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a study that tracked the changes in a company stakeholder network over a five-year period. The tracking process gave the company many insights into its stakeholders. There are hundreds of ways to graph social network data. The network graphs produced by the study showed how the stakeholder network went from a loose unitary state pattern dominated by a traditional clan authority to a loose federation pattern coordinated by a democratically elected local government body. The graphs in the chapter use the color of the circle to indicate whether it was a locally based stakeholder (dark gray) or a stakeholder with a leadership base away from Misima Island (light gray). The Misima study tracked the evolution of a social network across time. It measured the source social capital in relationships among stakeholders in a way that allowed comparisons over a four-year period.
