Social science student community engagement
This chapter presents a case study for the expansion and consolidation of the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) in Glasgow Caledonian University. It provides an overview of the challenge(s) faced in relation to mainstreaming responsible management, an explanation of the actions taken in relation to the challenge(s), information about the results and benefits of the actions taken, and some points regarding the role of PRME/sustainability principles to carry out the activity. The case study reports on the impact of an innovative teaching approach: an accredited module at Glasgow Caledonian University – Community Links – that supports social science students in applying their knowledge and skills acquired in the academy through engagement with community, voluntary, and statutory organisations. Furthermore, social science students often struggle to make links between the learning in the academy and its application in the wider social and work context.
