ABSTRACT

The eight disciplines fit into a change management framework designed to deal with business discontinuities and, in many cases, disruptive innovation. In this chapter, the backbone of change management has been adapted to the specific challenges presented by a multi-stakeholder environment and revised assumptions about business’s role in society. A distinction is made between incremental and breakthrough value opportunities. Sustainability challenges such as climate change and global poverty can require companies to fundamentally redesign their products and, in many cases, their underlying business models. A failure by industry leaders to pursue radical change may not only lead to growing societal problems; it may also represent significant lost business opportunities.
