ABSTRACT

VGAS aims to make connections between individual lifestyles and greenhouse gas emissions, gauging personal contributions to global emissions. In order to assure the quality of the prototype, VGAS underwent several phases of quality assurance by setting up 'tuning contexts'— where appropriate debate over the design of information and communications technologies can be developed and documented. The chapter describes the developed tool, methodologies to assure the quality of these types of tools, and the quality assurance process. It explores the concept of Convivial Social Learning TooLs as VGAS and discusses a set of remarks regarding the VGAS experience and communication between science and non-scientific audiences. In VGAS, the chapter distinguishes two main learning opportunities. First, users can gauge how their personal way of life impacts on the environmental feature or resource in question. Second, users can explore alternative possibilities for social and economic changes towards sustainability.
