ABSTRACT

Transportation companies are a priority when it comes to mitigating the environmental impacts of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The tool is specifically developed for transportation SMEs and should enable them to identify, analyse, manage and report environmental factors related to financial functions. Strategic drivers correspond to stakeholders' concern for environmental protection, public health issues and quality of life in general. The economic benefits of environmental management were identified immediately by the interviewed companies. The lack of human, time and economic resources prevents SMEs from obtaining the environmental information and know-how that they need. From a generic environmental model, three basic models are defined—energy consumption, transportation and logistics chains. EcoTra is built on the expertise and environmental skills of its developers to process data, calculate environmental indicators and costs, and display the results. The user's environmental performance can be expressed by indicators that represent the relations between the environmental impact and outputs of operations.
