ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book proposes a pathway for researchers and practitioners in the general area of organisations and the natural environment to address issues of common interest. It illustrates interesting relationships, both collaborative and conflictive, among several categories of sustainability-oriented group types. The book highlights several sources of this movement, including economic, health and spirituality motivations, and several necessary strategies, such as drawing on multiple political bases and using 'both carrots and swords'. It focuses primarily on one car manufacturer and its hybrid technology, and provided information on one main competitor and other Honda stakeholders. The book provides several models that identify important components and principles of business ecology which go beyond 'greening' to achieve both organisational and ecological health and renewal. It suggests that conservationists and environmentalists need to work together already occurs in the US to a certain extent.
