ABSTRACT
Let us take the International Space Station (ISS) as a model. The designers and engineers who created it hail from all corners of the globe. The time has come for all parties concerned with a more equitable globalisation to form a team of social engineers for a new endeavour-to create a working model of sustainable living and business styles. Lester Brown, founder of the Earth Policy Institute, has pointed to the need to accelerate the transition to sustainable development (Brown 2001). A ‘network of excellence’ should take the lead in a project following a systemic and holistic approach. Europeans have an essential contribution to make.
