ABSTRACT
In modern looms the weft threads reach speeds of up to 200 km/h. To prevent weaving faults due to minute protruding fibres the weft and warp threads are surrounded by a coating known as size. Usually this protective jacket is made from natural materials such as corn or potato starch. In addition, however, there are synthetic sizes based in acrylate developed by BASF.
