ABSTRACT
The reasoning is that this is an inevitable outcome as so many products are dematerialised that ultimately there has to be a positive environmental impact on production, transport, usage and waste disposal. In terms of the primary energy consumption and the greenhouse effect, the answering machine has a 27 times greater environmental impact than the T-Net-Box. As in the T-Net-Box study, only the environmental impacts of circuit board production and semiconductor production were taking into account. The eco-balance data for the television was taken from a study conducted by the Oeko-Institut Freiburg and was fully integrated into the environmental impact assessment of videoconferencing. As part of the 'Top Ten Innovations' project with the Oeko-Institut Freiburg, Deutsche Telekom commissioned a study to systematically investigate the ecological balance of the T-Net-Box, which is Deutsche Telekom's virtual call manager in its fixed network. The 'new economy' has public life fully in its grasp as its participants already consider it completely normal.
