ABSTRACT

Unfortunately, there is not much scientific literature about the effects of agricultural trade liberalisation on the environment. Existing theoretical papers simply use general models on trade and environment, and do not consider special features of agriculture sufficiently. The few empirical papers estimate the change of production quantities and try to derive environmental effects from those changes. Some of the well-known articles in connection with the topic are those by Anderson (1992) and Lutz (1990). In the following I present the usual arguments and their weaknesses.
