ABSTRACT
A challenge facing us businesses is that of maintaining their role as technological and manufacturing leaders while protecting the natural environment in which they operate. Increased costs of maintaining environmental compliance, political pressure and customer and supplier demand have caused hundreds of companies to re-evaluate their traditional manufacturing processes and operations. In doing so, businesses are increasingly adopting the global environmental management system (EMS) standard, ISO I4001, to manage their environmental impacts more effectively and efficiently.
