ABSTRACT

Another metaphor for change is the move ‘from products to services’, where the challenge is to disconnect economic growth from increased consumption of natural resources, by focusing on providing the service functions of products rather than on selling the products themselves. One such example of a business moving from products to services is the US carpet manufacturer Interface Inc., chaired by Ray Anderson, who explains in his book Mid-Course Correction (1998) how his company is becoming a ‘sustainable enterprise’.
