ABSTRACT

Car sharing is catching on. In many cities, from Seattle to Zurich, commuters or shoppers pick up small cars at handy stations for a modest fee, drive to the office or shopping mall, and leave the car at a nearby station for someone else to drive. After work or errands, the commuter or shopper picks up another car to go home, leaving the car at a station where it is available to go out for the evening with someone else at the wheel. Car sharing promises to become part of a multiple-transportation mode to get from here to there.
