ABSTRACT

The Institute of Environmental Management has organised and conducted a series of training workshops for environmental managers. This chapter identifies best practice from these workshops and the experiences managers brought to them. Environmental training enables individuals to carry out their work in a way which minimises significant impacts on the environment. Similarly, those involved in waste management or the operation of pollution control and monitoring equipment will probably require specific environmental training to develop their skills. Tony Jaggers of Rolls Royce said: 'If you are giving environmental training to a wide range of people, one of the problems to watch out for is that you are not simply teaching 5% of an audience while 95% nod off. The environmental manager, Keith Smith, presented his approach to environmental training at the Institute workshop at the Engineering Employer's Federation in London. The number of courses delivering pertinent environmental training, and the Institute wants to ensure that members know which ones these are.
