ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a research on how to select good alliance partners. In this research, the goal is to create a typology of environmental organisations and describe an exemplar in each type so that potential partners understand the range of partners that existed. The purpose of the research was to develop a typology of non-profit organisations that could be used to guide the search for alliance partners. The sample was drawn from the membership directory of the National Wildlife Federation. The chapter describes survey and presents the results of the data analysis that helped generate the typology of environmental organisations. It also describes procedures involved in conducting in-depth interviews with key respondents from each organisational type. The chapter discusses the issues of managerial relevance and describes how the results could help in selecting appropriate alliance partners.
