ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses environmentalism and all its predicates to mean 'green' as in 'ecological', unless otherwise stated. It focuses on one notable aspect of these emergent organisational forms: namely, teams set up to handle corporate environmental concerns. The chapter examines 'green' teams that are set up in virtual space to pursue corporate environmental excellence. It is concerned with the growth and effectiveness of virtual teams in the organisational value-chain, and the opportunities they provide, by way of electronic data transfer and electronic networking, to achieve both environmental and cost benefits. The chapter suggests that virtual teams will most naturally form along the virtual value-chain of an organisation. It describes networks of virtual teams as being more open to the extent they allow easier communication with a new team by the use of public protocols already widely adopted by major access providers.
