ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts covered in the preceding chapters of this book. The book discusses exceptional people who have turned the businesses that they own or manage into positive forces that improve the lives of all. Having a positive impact on others as a guiding principle is a fundamentally different approach to business; it is light years away from the “business is business” philosophy with its myopic focus on generating as much cash and profit as possible. It requires a new way of thinking, a different way of looking at the world. From a real value perspective, businesses are not sharks that battle and bite in the bloody “red ocean” of hyper competition. “A new narrative is emerging in society,” says R. Edward Freeman, who is widely renowned for his pioneering work on stakeholder theory.
