ABSTRACT

A cookie-cutter approach to values select some, throw them up will work if people want something to display on people corporate website, but it will offer little more than that. To bring values to life, for the genuine transformative potential that they offer, values will be an implicit, and occasionally explicit, part of the rhythms and dance of commercial life. The checklist is intended to be a resource, as a prompt for possible actions, rather than a list of requirements. The ‘wild facts’ of climate change, resource constraints and species loss are collective action problems, as are the trends towards wider social inequalities. For a sustainable future, these are challenges that require a response from leaders, of business as much as any other sector, that is rooted in values. Values can help people to uncover the hidden potential of people business.
