ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the political-economy-level systems changes that are necessary if humanity is to survive the twenty-first century. It argues that 'post-traditional corporate governance' will welcome 'the democratic expression of national and transnational publics'. The book describes a nonmiserabalist approach to the challenges that humanity now faces, where the objective is to think new visions by seeing the objective from different spaces and places. Collaborations and multi-stakeholder engagement are part and parcel of the world of corporate citizenship and many of the articles that Journal of Corporate Citizenship (JCC) has published are on this subject. The future of a journal such as the JCC, apart from changing its name, lies in reaching into other domains. First, it needs to talk about political economy and invite articles that paint bigger and smaller pictures, and analyse the global and the local.
