ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the national approaches to sustainable enterprise in Morocco. It includes key information about the priority issues, trends, and government policies as well as best-practice case studies of sustainable enterprise in Morocco. Morocco is one of the most advanced countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, drawing on a strong social policy. A major strength of the country is its strategic geographical position, between Europe and Africa, which allows for a close and a continuous trade flow. Corporate social responsibility (CSR), mainly the stakeholders' approach, is a founding aspect of the Moroccan culture. The Moroccan Economic, Social and Environmental Council is playing a pivotal role in modelling governmental CSR framework. Sustainable enterprise – mainly in the form of CSR – is largely encouraged through the creation and adoption of voluntary codes and standards.
