ABSTRACT

Austria is divided into nine federal states. Vienna is with 1.7 million inhabitants the capital city of Austria. In Austria, the most important challenges concerning enterprises and their sustainability initiatives are twofold. The acceptance of the importance of implementing sustainability into business strategy processes fitting to the company's core competence, identity and culture. Sustainable enterprises in Austria are regulated by a variety of national economic, social and environmental laws, based on European Union policies. For example, the right of unrestricted access to environmental information is set in the Austrian Federal Environmental Information Act. Bavarian Motor Works (BMW) was founded in 1916 as a German automobile, motorcycle and engine manufacturing company with its headquarters in Munich, Germany. BMW has six Austrian subsidiaries; the site in Steyr, Austria is the biggest motor production facility of the BMW Group worldwide. Voslauer is a leading mineral water bottler in Austria and is part of the Austrian beverage corporation Ottakringer.
