ABSTRACT

Now that the book has been finished, a final word on what I consider to be the main lessons from this lifetime inquiry into the shared purpose of business and economics. It all started with the Dalai Lama’s vision for a more compassionate society. In his words, such a society is beyond religious or ethnic conflicts, beyond social and economic inequality, beyond environmental destruction and resource depletion, beyond excessive greed and corruption—a world where people recognize their common humanity and where kindness and well-being for all has become the norm for all social, political, and economic interaction. For the Dalai Lama, it is not a question of “if” this vision materializes into reality, but “when.” It is this conviction, which he so naturally embodies, that makes his vision for the future so inspirational.
