ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) Principle 1, which calls on universities to commit to the purpose of developing "the capabilities of students to be future generators of sustainable value for business and society at large and to work for an inclusive and sustainable global economy". A research study explored the relationship between consciousness development and green leadership—which is one expression of responsible management. The PRME movement has promoted the purpose of responsible management education (RME) "to develop the capabilities of students to be future generators of sustainable value for business and society at large and to work for an inclusive and sustainable global economy". The chapter identifies three aspects of intellectual knowledge which can bring the dimension of consciousness development into management education in diverse institutional settings. These three are: stage models of human development; systems thinking; and a unified view of humanity and nature.
