ABSTRACT

A theory of change is more than a single question about how change happens. A complete theory of change has three parts: a statement of the reality, a desired future, and a path to get from one to the other. Environmental stewardship is not just a contest between competing factions in society. Yet people often apply an “us versus them” framework when they think about environmental problems. Addiction to drugs or alcohol is an illness that is an aberration from the norm. We know what is healthy behavior and we know what is not, in this case, because some people are addicts and some people are not. There is a measure of judgment when calling someone an addict. Man-made chemicals permeate environment. But on issues of the environment, most notably climate change, we are all faced with the same challenge.
