ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book addresses issues of gender equality across a wide range of businesses, organizations and cultural environments worldwide. It provides inspiration and incentives for businesses to address gender inequality throughout their organizations and beyond, including in the communities in which they operate. The book focuses on range of industries and work situations that reflect the nature of women's work and the challenges of gender equality across regions and countries. It also provides conceptual and research rationales as to why responsible businesses and organizations must address the issue of gender equality in the work-place. The book demonstrates that addressing gender equality in the workplace often requires collaboration and leadership beyond the management team and walls of a company, as the roots of gender inequality are found in society at large.
